The Crookston High School’s Homecoming Week is this week.

The Crookston Home Delivered Meals will be delivered by the Agassiz Study Club and CHS Leo Club this week.

The Crookston Police Department is holding a Public Vehicle Auction now until to Friday, October 14. Vehicles are being sold online through the State of Minnesota online auction website MINNBID.ORG. Vehicles are located at 27032 273rd Street SW, or one block west and one block north of Ampride. The deadline for the Auction is Friday, October 14. Please contact the Crookston Police Department at 218-281-3111 for additional information or to schedule a vehicle inspection.

Our Savior’s Lutheran School in Crookston will not have school today or tomorrow as their teachers will be attending a conference.

The Crookston High School will have Color Wars Day today, with each grade level wearing differently assigned colors to show their spirit.

The Golden Link Senior Center will have Reflexology today at 8:30 a.m., Smear and Ruby’s Bridge at 1:00 p.m., a SAIL Exercise Class at 2:30 p.m., and an American Auxiliary Meeting at 6:00 p.m.

Polk County Public Health Department will hold two COVID Vaccine Clinics today. The first will be in the Crookston Office from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. and the second will be in East Grand Forks from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m.

The Crookston High School Europe Trip students will be holding two fundraisers this week. The first will be at the girls volleyball game against East Grand Forks tonight where there will be a potato bar with all the fixings starting at 5:00 p.m. for a cost of $6. Then on Friday, October 7, at the football game also against East Grand Forks, there will be a walking taco bar starting at 5:00 p.m. for the cost of $6. Come support the pirate athletes as well as the travelers.

The Crookston American Legion Auxiliary, Nels T Wold Unit 20 will hold their monthly meeting at the Golden Link tonight at 6:15 p.m.  If you wish to have dinner at the Golden Link before their meeting, please remember to register at 281-3072.

The Crookston Eagles will have Bar BINGO tonight, at 6:30 p.m.

The Crookston High School will have Pirate Pride Day, Tattoo and Face Painting in the High School Commons on Friday, October 7, at 7:30 a.m., a Pepfest in the High School Gymnasium at 2:30 p.m., and the Homecoming Dance from 9:00 p.m. to midnight. Entry to the dance is $10 per student.

The Crookston Eagles will have Bar BINGO with a $500 must-go final blackout on Friday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m.

The Bible Baptist Church is hosting its annual Family Fall Festival on Saturday, October 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is located at the church property and will be a fun time of carnival-style games, prizes and candy, hayrides, bounce houses, and more. They will have a photo booth and games will have a fun outdoorsman theme. Food is provided and everything is free! Polk County Public Health will have a family event known as Kids at Castle with the Crookston Early Childhood Initiatives on Monday, October 10, in Castle Park from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The theme for the event will be the Boo Run Run, where kids can come dressed in their Halloween costume for outdoor fun, including a walk/run through the trails, the Storybook Trail, and other activities. The 2022 Rydell National Wildlife Refuge Mentored Youth Deer Hunt for youth between the ages of 12 and 15 is extending its registration period to Friday, October 14 as there are still five unfilled sports for youth hunters. The hunt will be held on Saturday, October 29, and Sunday, October 30. Youth interested in participating in the hunt must have completed the Firearms Safety Training and have a mentor attend a mandatory four-hour orientation session on Sunday, October 23. The Crookston Fire Department will have an Open House for Fire Prevention Week on Saturday, October 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The theme this year is “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape.” There will be “Bucket Rides” Thermal Imager Demonstrations, Door Prizes, refreshments, a chance to try on firefighting gear, meet the Crookston firefighters and Sparky the Fire Dog, and more. Kids can also get enrolled in the Minnesota Masonic ID program.

Linda Morgan and CHS Leo Club members will offer a Childcare Certification Clinic Saturday, October 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Washington School cafeteria for ages 11 through 13. The Crookston Blue Line Club is offering a free event called Give Hockey A Shot! on Sunday, October 16, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. for children between the ages of 3 and 18. All equipment, skates, and sticks will be provided by the club, and there will be arena tours, an info booth, games, on-ice helpers, and a meet & greet with coaches. The Crookston Lions 13th Annual Hoops on Halloween 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament for third through ninth grade will be Sunday, October 30, at the Crookston High School. The cost is $100 per team, with a maximum of five people.  There’s a three-game guarantee, first through third place medals, door prizes, and a team costume contest. The Crookston Civic Music League’s 2022-23 Entertainment Series will begin on Friday, October 21, with concert singer Jeremy Stolle in the Crookston High School Auditorium. Concert admission is for Season Ticket holders only. Tickets cost $15 for students and $45 for adults.

A Benefit Fundraiser for Terry Moser will be Friday, October 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Crookston Eagles. There will be a Spaghetti Dinner with a free-will donation and auction items.  Terry is battling cancer and the fundraiser is to help with expenses. A Benefit Account has been set up at United Valley Bank in Crookston if you’d like to donate.

Rydell National Wildlife Refuge will host a special Mentored Youth Deer Hunt for kids ages 12-15 in cooperation with the Minnesota DNR and the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge Refuges Association on October 29 and 30. Youth must attend a mandatory orientation session that happens on Sunday, October 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

City of Crookston Yard Waste and Branch Collection will be collected from Monday, October 31 to Friday, November 4 on your regular scheduled pick-up day. Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled. If they aren’t cut to this length and bundled, they will be left for the owner to haul away. Bagged yard waste must not exceed 30 pounds per bag. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall for pickup.

Polk County is honoring Veterans Day on the week of November 7-13 by taking part in ‘Operation Green Light’, a new national collaborative initiative to support military veterans by shining green lights at the county buildings’ flag poles. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.

The Early Childhood Family Education will see the Tour of Lights on Monday, December 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The bus will leave from the Washington Elementary School and tour Crookston’s homes filled with holiday lights.

The Crookston Civic Music League will have the New York City Classical music group Frisson perform in the Crookston High School Auditorium on Monday, February 27, at 7:00 p.m. as a part of their 2022-23 Entertainment Series. Concert admission is for Season Ticket holders only. Tickets cost $15 for students and $45 for adults.

An awards luncheon recognizing all individuals who have achieved this designation over the last year will take place at the MCFOA Annual Conference in St. Cloud, from March 22 to the 24.

The Crookston Care & Share is now accepting donations of Women’s, Men’s, and children’s coats and jackets, jeans, sweatshirts, long sleeve t-shirts, and winter gear, as well as toiletries and other common items. Donations may be dropped off at the Care and Share Center at 220 East Third Street.

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, running from May through October. Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away. Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup.

Second booster doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are now available at Altru Clinic in Crookston for people 50 and older and those 12 and older who are immunocompromised. The second booster dose must be administered at least four months after the first booster. Adults who received Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) for their primary vaccine and booster dose at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of Pfizer or Moderna only. The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All are welcome.
