Hey Amarillo, do you miss the past Thanksgiving?

We still have a lot to do on Thanksgiving Day. We get up and either start preparing for a grand banquet or make some side dishes to bring to our family's home. Maybe we wake up knowing that we are going to The Big Texan for a buffet.

From the moment we wake up, we almost all have food thoughts. We can't wait to let these smells into our house. We may spend the rest of the time watching football.

Maybe we have plans to start renovation. That night, many of us would fall asleep in a winter wonderland. We will erect the tree. We will carefully hang our socks by the chimney.

This is the official day when we start thinking about Christmas trees and shopping. The excitement of this season is on us.

One thing we used to do on Thanksgiving morning I miss very much, and that is to look for Amarillo Global News. My sister and I will wait for my mother to come home from get off work to read the newspaper, and we can't deliver it to where we live. Then we will throw away the actual paper and go directly to find the advertisement.

Whether we intend to go out on Black Friday or not, these ads are our Christmas bible. We have a sharp knife in our hand. We go circling anything we might think we want for Christmas.

This is how we came up with the "wish list". Oh, we will start with the advertisement for Toys R Us. We want all kinds of things.

We will look at Hastings’ ads.

Oh, and don't forget Mervyn's.

We even have some Kmart's.

In Amarillo, all these places are now a thing of the past. Do you have the same memories? Maybe you will receive the very popular Sears or Montgomery Ward catalogs, which will be sent by mail.

Those simple times. Do you miss them too? Mark our territory and realize these dreams on Christmas morning.
