The Toy of the Year Award is often referred to as the "Oscar" of the industry, and nominations for the 2022 award have now been announced.

The TOTY 2022 voting process includes not only the opinions of consumers, but also the opinions of toy association members, retailers, journalists, bloggers and academics. Voting will end on January 4, 2022, and the winner will be announced at a celebration held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on February 18, 2022.

TOTY supports the Toy Foundation, which brings joy and comfort to children in need through the experience of toys and games.

Four weighted votes-one vote each for retailers (30%), media (30%), consumers (10%) and toy association members (30%)-are open from now until January 4, 2022.

The overall toy of the year will be selected by a panel of industry representatives, who will consider a variety of factors when making a decision, including annual toy voting, holiday sales, and media popularity (traditional, online, and social).

The finalists for the TOTY Awards in 2022 are as follows:

Action Figure of the Year

Toys representing people or fictional characters, intended to be used in positive, imaginative and narrative-based games

A set of toys can be collected in multiple pieces; it can include novelty toys, miniature versions of existing product lines, authorized collectibles, etc.

Construction Toy of the Year

Toys with building as the main game mode

Creative Toy of the Year

Toys that allow children to build and/or make their own items

Toys including babies, toddlers and fashion dolls

Games suitable for families and children (0-14 years old), including board, card, electronic or other physical game forms and puzzles, excluding video or app games

*New* Adult Toy of the Year

Toys and games developed mainly for adults/children, including party games, board games, collectibles, arts and crafts, etc. These toys are usually promoted by fans, social media and adult humor, but they are neither "adult toys" nor sex toys

Best baby toy of the year

Toys developed for 0-3 years old (0-18 months infants/18 months-3 years old infants)

Successfully spread the role or property of its brand by developing and selling products developed by intellectual property rights

Outdoor toy of the year

Toys designed for outdoor play, including riding toys

Toys designed to complete certain actions or events together, including roles and role-playing

Plush toy of the year

Toys made of fabric and filled with cotton or similar stuffing, including toys with interactive or electronic functions

Preschool toy of the year

Toys developed for 3-5 years old

Featured Toys of the Year

Manufacturer's toys that are mainly sold through independent retailers (neighborhood toy stores, museum shops, resorts, and similar places) or sold online in limited quantities

Steam toy of the year

Toys that encourage children to develop, strengthen and integrate science, technology, engineering, art and math skills

Toy cars, trucks, trains, and other vehicles of all sizes, including remote control cars, but not riding cars
