The Capcom fighter will release in 2023, new trailer confirms

Capcom has debuted the first Street Fighter 6 gameplay, which confirms that the sequel is set to include a single-player adventure mode.

First shown during a PlayStation State of Play broadcast on Thursday, the gameplay trailer confirmed a 2023 release window on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

“Powered by Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Street Fighter 6 spans three distinct game modes, including Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub,” Capcom said. “The experience also includes innovative new gameplay features, plus enhanced visuals for every aspect of the game.

“In addition to new gameplay innovations, Street Fighter 6 celebrates what fans love about the franchise by uniting core modes from previous titles – including Arcade Mode, online matches, Training Mode, local versus battles and more – to the Fighting Ground experience. From iconic World Warriors like Ryu and Chun-Li, to the final addition to the Street Fighter V roster Luke, and the new expert breakdancer / drunken boxer Jamie, players will have a wide range of fighting styles and skills to master.”

Street Fighter 6 will feature a new optional control type with “simplified inputs”, Capcom said, as well as a new Drive System, “a new gauge used to perform five distinct techniques that enhance a player’s offensive or defensive capabilities”.

Returning in Street Fighter 6 are Ryu, Chun-Li and Luke. Joining them is a brand new challenger, Jamie.

The first new game mode is Fighting Ground, which focuses on the classic fighting game experience with modes from previous games in the series, such as Arcade, online matches, Training, local versus and more.

Meanwhile, World Tour is described as “an immersive single-player story experience” that “pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows players to leave their own legacy with their player avatar”.

Finally, Battle Hub is described as “a destination that provides players with new and unique ways to engage, communicate and interact.”

SF6 will also feature the series’ first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen.

In its original announcement earlier this year, the publisher said it’s developing the fighting sequel “with the aim of elevating the fighting game genre to a new level in the world of esports while also utilizing [our] cutting-edge development technology to produce an enthralling game experience.”
