Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Bouke Van Komen and Johanna Wilhelmina Kaptein on February 23, 1951, has passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on 08/30/2022, after a short struggle with Alzheimer's.

Bob met Val Van Komen, the love of his life, in May 1997. They married a year later on May 21, 1998, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Throughout his lifetime he worked many jobs, and had a lot of fun different experiences, which he loved each and every one of them for many different reasons. He worked in radio for many years and ended his career working construction- installing fire sprinkler systems- with many amazing jobs in between. He retired in 2012.

He absolutely loved to ski and golf for many, many years, before he became physically unable to do so. After which, he and his wife Val, loved to travel to Wendover, Nevada and down to Mesquite, Nevada to visit with his father-in-law and mother-in-law to play the slots in their spare time.

His favorite thing to do, especially in the Fall season was watching football and cheering on his two favorite teams, The Utah Utes (Go Utes!) and the San Francisco 49ers. Once in a while he even cheered on Val's team the Dallas Cowboys! He was a VERY avid sports fan, and truly loved watching any sports on TV.

A fun hobby he really enjoyed was playing the claw machines in gas stations, casinos, and grocery stores! He was the "Claw Machine King"! He could never pass up an opportunity to try his luck at a machine, and boy was he a pro! With the several hundred stuffed animals that he won; they literally took up an entire bedroom in his home. Every time he had a visit from any of his grandchildren, he would take them right up to that room and let them pick out a stuffy to take home (sometimes he would even let them sneak 2 or 3 of them). He was always a kid at heart!

Bob also LOVED his yard and gardening. His favorite part of gardening, of course, was the pumpkins, because he had the incredible joy in allowing all of his grandchildren to come over every fall and pick out pumpkins to take home.

He was so selfless in life. It made him very happy to bring joy and happiness to others, over his own happiness.

He loved his family more than anything in this world. Even though he was unable to see everyone as much as he would have liked, he always talked about his family. His brothers, and sister, and of course his two amazing sons, bonus children, and grandchildren.

He had such a special place in his heart for his bonus daughter, Corinne Parry, the daughter he had always wanted, and finally got. His son-in-law, Jason Parry, and his grandson, Austin Bailey, who would always drop anything and come to help, no matter what! And his bonus son, DJ Bailey, that he always spoke of so very fondly.

Preceded in death by his two amazing sons, that were his absolute entire reason for being- Troy and Anthony. His parents, Bouke and Johanna. Father-in-law, Richard Higley. Brothers John Van Komen, and Paul Van Komen, and sister-in-law Rochelle Peebles.

Survived by his loving soulmate, Val Van Komen. Children, Corinne (Jason) Parry, and DJ Bailey. Ten Grandchildren, Madison, Beau, Avery, Kaitlyn, Austin, Cameron, Ariel, Kloee, Zaria and Zayda. And one great-grandson, Dylan. Sister, Kim Rodgers. Brothers, Frank (Lynne) Van Komen, Sier (Tessie) Van Komen. As well as many amazing nieces and nephews, and other incredible extended family members including several brothers and sisters-in-law.

A viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11:00am at Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 S. 2200 W. Riverton, Utah 84065. Followed by Graveside services at 12:00pm at Riverton City Cemetery located at 1540 W. 13200 S. Riverton, Utah.

We will love you for eternity. Rest in Paradise!
